Shahabuddin Ahmed –Painter of our pride

Shahabuddin is a world renowned painter born in Bangladesh in 1950. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, after the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1974 Shahabuddin had scorlaship to studied in the Ecole des beaux-arts de Paris, he moved to Paris. He has shown his works extensively across the globe. In 1992 he is one of 50 Master Painters of Contemporary Arts, an award bestowed on him at the Olympiad of Arts, Barcelona.


The primary concern of his paintings is to reflect the contemporary life and times. He is an optimist and this is clearly expressed in his paintings. This optimism was firmly embedded in Shahabuddin when he has a youth was involved in the Liberation struggle for Bangladesh and had to face the various facets of life.

He has the capability to overcome the constraints of time and space. In their dynamism his paintings depict fearless human figures that cut through the difficulties of life, which provide one the reason to live. The vibrancy and force of his brushwork highlight this aspect. Above all his compositions are unmistakably musical and rhythmic. Shahabuddin’s figures seem to be enthralled in the cosmic dance at times merging with the ethereal forces.

His works are displayed in many galleries across the globe including the Museum Olympic of Lausanne in Switzerland, Bangladesh national museum, Bulgarian national museum in Sofia, Olympic museum of south Corea and Bourg-en Bresse Museum France,
India, USA, England...

Shahabuddin's paintings are permanently displayed in Galerie Daniel Besseiche, Galerie Samagra, Galerie du Fleuve in Paris 6ème (rue Jacob, rue de Seine, sur Guénégaud) Galerie Jas de la Rimade in south of France (Carcès near to Aix-en-Provence) Galerie Daniel Besseiche in Courchevel, Deauville and Saint-Tropez.

His paintings are often sold by auction in Drouot, Artcurial, Christie's, Versailles Enchères etc.


Shahabuddin’s other mentionable awards include the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal as Best Painter in the Institute of Fine Art (1973), Gold Medal at the Salon de Printemps, Paris (1975), Honorable Mention at the 3rd Asian Art Biennial, Dhaka (1986) and awards at the Cigars de la Havana a Horizon 2000 (1999-2000).
He has had more than 40 solo exhibitions in Europe alone and has represented Bangladesh on numerous occasions in international art forums. His last solo exhibition in Dhaka was held at Shilpangan in 2000.
